Cubs in 2003

So... this is what happened in the 2003 Division Series for the Cubs...

The Foul Ball Incident: At the time of the incident, Mark Prior was pitching a three-hit shutout for the Chicago Cubs in the eighth inning. Luis Castillo was batting, with one out and Juan Pierre standing on second base. The Chicago Cubs were leading 3-0, led the series three games to two, and were five outs away from reaching the World Series for the first time since 1945 and attempting to win it for the first time since 1908. Coincidentally, Game 6 was played on the 95th anniversary of the clinching game of the Cubs' last championship.

Bartman was sitting in a box seat (aisle 4, row 8, seat 113) in the front row along the left field corner wall behind the bullpen when a pop foul off the bat of Castillo drifted toward his seat. Cubs left fielder Moises Alou ran over to attempt a catch, but Bartman, who was watching the ball and not the fielder, got to the ball first. Alou slammed his glove down in frustration and was seen shouting in Bartman's direction, and the Cubs argued for an interference call. Video replays showed that Alou may have had an opportunity to make the catch if Bartman (as well as the surrounding fans) had not reached out for the ball. Umpire Mike Everitt's call of no fan interference was apparently correct; it appears that the ball was entering the stands when the incident occurred. The rules of baseball specify that fan interference cannot be called on a ball hit into the stands, only when a spectator reaches into the field of play and interferes. The play rattled the team, and Castillo later walked. That opened the floodgates (along with a crucial error by SS Alex S. Gonzalez, as noted below, who booted a potential double play moments later) and the Marlins scored eight runs, won the game, and later the series.

The Marlins took the NLCS and then went on to beat the Yanks in the 2003 World Series. As for the 'Bartman Ball'... It was shocked with electricity and exploded on a webcast for all fans to watch.

CUBS WIN!

WE (they) DID IT!

The Cubs have clinched the NL Central! I dont know what to say... WaHOO! I dont think I have been this excited about the Cubs in a long time! So... Who wants to donate to the 'Send Jon to watch the Cubs in the World Series Fund'? If they go, so do I. I hope.

Here are some stats for you since baseball is all about the numbers...

Last time the Cubs played in the NLCS (National League Championship Series): 2003 (Short version: Steve Bartman. Long version in next post)

The last time the Cubs played in the World Series: 1945 (they lost)

The last time the Cubs won a World Series: 1908 (they won back to back in 1907 and 1908)

So I say it again... GO CUBBIES!

Woman sentenced for decapitating daughter

What is wrong with our world today?

I understand being frustrated with a child. I understand beating a child (not really, but bare with me).

Spann says she filled the bathtub in their White Center home and drowned Kyeimah. Later, she beheaded her, saying she was trying to release a demon.

Taking the stairs

Call me stupid, but I took the stairs to my office today instead of the elevator. You will never know how out of shape you are until you do such. I remember doing stadiums in High School. You know stadiums, where you run up the stairs and down the stairs and back up the stairs and back down the stairs... Well, 11 years later I am dying just doing 6 flights of stairs to get to my desk. I am, however, determined to get in shape. So if this is how I have to find time to "work out", so be it!

4 times today I took the stairs, and the rest was on the elevator. Eventually I will get away from using the elevator all together, but we will do it 'one step at a time'. The only problem I am seeing is trying to get a cart full of monitors to roll up or even down the stairs. I guess there will be some exceptions to the stairs.

This should keep you all busy.

Let me know what you think, and keep me updated on your progress. I have not done this for a while, but I think we made it to clue 39 or something like that before I gave up... the group kept going.

My first post

Not sure what is going to happen with this... How often will I check it? Will it become another 'MySpace' for me? If you know anything about me, or my MySpace page... I dont do anything with it anymore.
So far, I like it a lot. I think I will like it a lot more as I go, and will learn more about blogging along the way. I guess I will need to come up with some good topics along the way, but I will try and keep it fun.
